Tantallon Castle, East Lothian
Tantallon Castle is located just east of North Berwick, near the hamlet of Auldhame. The castle was built by the powerful ‘Red Douglas’ family, Earls of Angus. It was besieged three times until finally destroyed by Oliver Cromwell.
The location is utterly superb, with views to the seabird sanctuary on Bass Rock. This view shows the last light of evening striking the castle – its a good thing the tide was out or I’d never have been able to get this view from the shore!
