Barmouth Shopping
Barmouth may not be an obvious port of call for shopaholics, but it is a good venue for the more discerning shopper. For here you won’t find the usual high street giants and the obvious brand names that you are a hallmark of most town centres – instead you’ll find a distinct flavour of the area with quaint independent outlets that reflect the tone of the town itself.
Jewel in the crown
Anyone looking to take home a souvenir or two will be spoilt for choice in Perrys, which offers a large collection of gold, platinum and silver jewellery that you are unlikely to find anywhere else. The shop has made its name as a specialist in jewellery repairs and can be found on Church Street.
Meanwhile, Celebrations of Barmouth, on King Edward Street, is the place to go to, if you want to find a greeting card, wrappings, Welsh cards or even helium balloons for all occasions. More gift ideas may spring to mind while you browse around The Set Piece, on Beach Road. It offers Welsh crafts (pictured) and gifts including Storm, Timex and Seconda watches, slate clocks, house names and numbers, ear piercings, Christening and anniversary gifts.
For something completely different meanwhile, make sure you walk into The Fat Buddha Company store. It supplies a range of unusual but authentic arts and crafts from around the world including jewelleries, oil burners, meditating buddhas, incense burners, hand carved woods and fragrance oils. Or for fine art originals and limited edition prints, stop by The Oriel Gallery which showcases the works of many local artists including Keith Davies, Janet Bell and Heather Jones.
The great outdoors
Barmouth’s shopping choices certainly embrace the great outdoors with a host of exceptional outlets to choose from.
For example, J&B Willbrook is a one-stop shop for all your building and home improvement needs; while Regatta Great Outdoors offers fantastic deals on outdoor clothing and footware. Or if you’re in search of caravan and camping supplies make sure you check out what’s on offer at COAST.
Other notable shops in the Barmouth area include Bradbury’s Garage, an MG Rover main dealer; Coastline Tyres, where you can take your car for an MOT and key repairs; Barmouth Printers, for colour brochures and letterheads; and Walter Lloyd Jones and Co if you want to check out some of the housing in the local area. However, one shop that should be on every tourist’s list of places to visit would have to be Barmouth Rock Shop – where you can get a taste of some traditional Barmouth rock.
Tomorrow: Barmouth Food And Drink.
